Mohun Bagan Super Giant downed archrival East Bengal 1-0 in the IFA Shield final at the Salt Lake Stadium on Thursday to retain the title.
With the victory, Bagan added its 22nd IFA Shield title, and is now seven behind East Bengal’s 29.
Samir Zeljkovic scored the only goal in the 45th minute after being put through on goal by Sahal Abdul Samad’s lofted ball into the box.
East Bengal, which beat Bagan in the Durand Cup final last month, pushed hard for an equaliser in the second period, which never arrived.
Both teams will now head into the Indian Super League (ISL), which kicks off on October 10.
While Bagan takes on NorthEast United FC on October 12, East Bengal will begin its title defence on October 18 away to Churchill Brothers.
