Medal-winning athletes from the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and Asian Para Games arrived at Jakarta's Presidential Palace on Thursday to receive rewards and bonuses from President Prabowo Subianto.

Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir said that athletes winning gold, silver, and bronze medals from the two events were invited to receive government awards.

Thohir noted that the bonuses awarded to athletes were higher than those given in previous editions, but did not reveal the exact amounts.

"The bonuses have increased, to ensure the athletes' welfare," he said when met before entering the Presidential Palace.

While sending off the Indonesian contingent at the State Palace on September 9, President Prabowo promised a bonus of Rp3 billion (approximately US$165 thousand) for athletes winning gold medals at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Thohir later explained that this amount applies to individual gold medalists.

According to the minister, the government aims to secure the long-term welfare of high-achieving athletes through savings, scholarships, and pension funds.

"The President has proven that being an athlete is an extraordinary career, one that not only brings glory to the nation, but also pride to families and individuals," he continued.

Thohir reported that the Indonesian contingent's achievements at the 2026 Asian Games and Asian Para Games exceeded their targets by winning five gold medals at the Asian Games and 15 gold medals at the Asian Para Games.

One of the athletes present at the Palace was I Kadek Dwi Purwana Yasa, a para-athletic athlete in the F57 class discus throw who won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games.

Kadek threw 49.75 meters in the event, setting a personal record and surpassing his previous best of 48.68 meters at the Grand Prix in Mexico.

The 2026 Asian Para Games marked Kadek's debut in the event, where he secured his first gold medal.
