India continued its unrelenting form in women’s hockey at the ongoing Asian Games 2026 after blanking Thailand 20-1 in a Pool-B fixture at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium on Wednesday.
This win joins the list of India’s thumping 19-0 and 17-1 victories over Uzbekistan and Indonesia respectively.
Drag-flick specialist and forward Deepika starred with nine goals, all of them being scored through Penalty Corners. Navneet Kaur scored four, Rutuja Pisal bagged a hat-trick, while Neha, Lalremsiami, Sakshi Rana, and captain Salima Tete also scored.
Thailand finally scored a goal, late in the fourth quarter, after Supansa Samanso’s drag-flick from a PC caught a slight deflection and entered the goal.
The Sjoerd Marijne-coached side sits comfortably on top of the pool standings as it prepares for a clash against Japan set to be held on Friday.
India won bronze in Hangzhou 2023 and is in hunt for a first Asian Games gold since 1982, when it clinched the top prize in the sport’s inaugural edition at the Games on home soil
