Warning! Spoilers ahead for Tracker season 4, episode 3 "Original Parts."Tracker season 4 is already three episodes in, and it's clear that it's sidestepping its overarching storylines for the future. Justin Hartley's fan-favorite lone-wolf series opened CBS's fall 2026 slate with Luke Grimes' Marshals at the top of the month. Now, Tracker has already released three episodes, the latest one being "Original Parts," which brings Colter to Texas for a simple marital issue-turned-drug ring bust case. Before he jets off to another state, however, hints of a romance make his return more exciting.
Whether there are any legs to Colter and Jenna Nova's (Gillian Bolt) budding love line is uncertain at this point. Tracker hasn't tackled any kind of long-term romance for the character, as his entanglements have only lasted for just the duration of his weekly case. This makes sense, considering his line of work. While Tracker season 4 seemingly deviates from that formula, the direction of its storytelling this season is more going back to basics, but with a major reckoning waiting somewhere in the future for Colter.
Tracker Season 4 Has Been Focused On Weekly Cases
After three episodes, Tracker season 4 has preserved its procedural format, as every week has been about a different case. Even the premiere, "Safe Harbor," focused on a professional outing for Colter instead of tackling the lingering stories from the 2025-2026 cycle, which is the norm for network TV season openers. It isn't like Tracker doesn't have any lingering stories to settle, even as season 3 effectively resolved the mysterious death of Ashton Shaw — the narrative anchor of the series from the beginning.
For starters, it still has Russell Shaw's betrayal hanging, and while Colter doesn't know about it yet, viewers are eager for answers, understandably. Aside from that, there's also the introduction of the Shaw patriarch's car, not to mention the brief reference to a bigger case that Hartley's survivalist was mulling over at the start of the year. These stories haven't had any substantial update in Tracker season 4, and while Jensen Ackles is coming back in a couple of weeks, there isn't an indication from the official details from CBS that it will tackle his secret mission from McIntyre.
Colter's Procedural Stories Sets Up A Big Reckoning In Tracker Season 4
The recaps at the start of Tracker season 4 episodes serve as a reminder that these stories are still at play. However, none of them have gotten any major movement in the actual episodes themselves. Granted that Colter did try contacting Russell once and was shown staring at his notes for the mysterious case, not to mention also fixing his dad's care, all those scenes don't amount to anything with regard to knowing more about these plots. Instead, Tracker season 4 has been focused on highlighting the character's professional skills, with a side of a personal love story now running on the side.
All in all, life is good for Colter right now, and that is the point of delaying telling these hanging stories. By focusing on the character seemingly going back to his normal routine, it allows Tracker to build up these revelations with a bigger emotional impact. Hartley himself said that they would be sidelining these stories for a bit, with the plan to eventually tackle them down the road. When that will be is currently uncertain, as the next two weeks of the show will still continue to be about weekly cases, at least based on CBS's releases. In any case, it's a great way to reset Tracker without having to make any major changes to it.
