The movie adaptation of the version of Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice that adds zombies into the mix is set to arrive on Netflix today, providing a truly unusual and engaging alternate imagining of one of the most famous tales of all time on-screen.

Zombie movies have long been a format that mixes things up to say the least, be that through efforts to reimagine what zombies are exactly in the likes of 28 Years Later or I Am Legend - and more recently with 2026's Colony - or through decidedly unconventional premises, as displayed by releases such as Zombeaver or Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead, wherein zombies become humanity's only source of fuel.

Of course, this rich and eclectic backdrop means there have been plenty of truly individual zombie movies over the years, as is the case for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Thankfully, it seems anyone curious about the film and the way in which it takes together a literary classic that is totally void of zombies and adds the walking dead has one easy way to experience the film from today onwards.

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies Comes To Netflix Today

While the classic English romance novel Pride and Prejudice is decidedly famous - and there have been a range of movie and show adaptations of Pride and Prejudice over the years - its comedy horror reimagining, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is less well-known. That said, the story has made waves ever since the book version was published back in 2009, parodying the original 19th century narrative, and adding the threat of the undead to the challenges Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy face throughout the course of their blossoming romance.

These waves led the film to be adapted into movie format, featuring zombies galore and a cast that includes Matt Smith before he would become a household name from the likes of Doctor Who and House of the Dragon.

As a more horror-themed release, it makes a lot of sense that Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is coming to Netflix on October 6 (as per What's On Netflix), since this means audiences wanting supernatural action during the Halloween season can enjoy it, and those simply curious about how the classic book's plot is altered also get a new chance to watch the film via the streaming services too.

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies Is A Truly Fitting October Netflix Watch

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)

Of course, one of the main appeals of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is that it's a decidedly unique kind of zombie movie, given it's a classical romance story that's been tweaked to feature a version of 19th century England that's dealing with a mysterious plague that the story's protagonists have to overcome alongside their own misunderstandings of one another in order to become a couple.

As such, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies works for those who are mainly invested in zombie movie action, as Elizabeth's plucky nature translates well into making her an action heroine who faces down the living dead in order to reunite with the man she's grown to love.

Inversely, though, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies also works for those who want a Halloween or horror-leaning experience that isn't too focused on the horror side of things, since the movie is still at its core about a romance, and much of the story still revolves around the classic tale of Pride and Prejudice and how Elizabeth and Darcy fall in love without having zombies in center stage, though they're by no means possible to ignore in this version of events.
