Northern Mindanao sweep: P6.7M contraband seized, 145 arrested

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Police in Northern Mindanao arrested 145 suspects and seized P6.7 million worth of alleged illicit goods in the past week, an official said.

The coordinated crackdown, mounted by Police Regional Office-10 (PRO-10) from September 10 to 16, cut across a wide illicit landscape: narcotics, smuggled goods, illegal mining, underground gambling, and fugitives on the run.

The biggest strike hit the drug pipeline with 65 separate anti-narcotics operations netting 65 suspects and 590.497 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated value of P4,015,257.

Authorities also seized suspected smuggled cigarettes valued at around P2.5 million during the period.

They also conducted 12 raids against alleged illegal mining activities, leading to the arrest of 11 people and the seizure of mineral ores and heavy machinery valued at P212,225.

Beyond the illicit trade, police tracked down elusive wanted individuals.

A man-hunt offensive led to the capture of 57 wanted persons, 14 of whom were tagged as Most Wanted.

Under “Oplan Kontra Boga, four persons were arrested, and 13 loose firearms were seized during the period.

Brig. Gen. Nestor Babagay Jr., PRO-10 director, commended the operating units for maintaining relentless pressure across the region.

“These operational achievements reflect our unyielding resolve to eradicate illegal drugs, curb criminality, and ensure the safety of every community in Northern Mindanao. We will maintain this strong momentum and leave no room for lawlessness to thrive,” Babagay said in a statement on Tuesday./coa
