Tributes have been paid to a 32-year-old polo player who died following a serious accident during a match in West Sussex.

Harry Revell was injured while playing at Cowdray Park Polo Club in Easebourne on Friday, September 11.

An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene following reports that a man had suffered an accidental injury.

Harry was rushed to a major trauma centre, while two other people were also injured.

One was taken to a local hospital for treatment, while the other was discharged at the scene. Harry later died in hospital.

Cowdray Park Polo Club described him as a 'much-loved and respected member of the polo community' and announced a farewell cup would be held as a mark of respect before the season resumes in time.

Lovelocks Polo Stud, where Harry was a greatly valued member of the team, also paid an emotional tribute.

In a statement, it said: 'We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Harry Revell following an accident during a polo match at Cowdray Park Polo Club on Friday, 11th September.

'Harry was a greatly valued part of the Lovelocks Team, and his memory will live on through every horse he rode for us. He will be deeply missed.

'We would like to send our sincere condolences to his wife, family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.'

A Cowdray Park Polo Club spokesperson said: 'The club has remained in close contact with Harry's family since the accident and will continue to offer whatever support we can.

'Harry's family take some comfort in knowing that he was unconscious immediately following the accident, and he remained peaceful and in the very best care until he passed.

'We are also enormously grateful to the medical teams who responded at Cowdray and to everyone involved in Harry's care.'
