India will be aiming to end its run of drawn matches when it takes on Germany in the open section of the Chess Olympiad 2026 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on Friday.
Both Indian teams were held to draws in Round 8. The men’s side drew 1-1 with Azerbaijan, while B. Savitha Shri’s late victory helped the women’s team secure a 2-2 draw against Kazakhstan.
Round 9 will see the Indian men face Germany, while the women will meet host Uzbekistan.
There will be one change to each lineup. Vidit Gujrathi has been rested in the open section, with Nihal Sarin taking his place. Vantika Agarwal comes into the women’s team in place of R. Vaishali.
India enters the ninth round seventh in the standings, with 13 points from eight rounds.
