NEW DELHI: New Zealand had a terrible start against India in the second ODI at the Hnry Stadium in Wellington on Saturday. The Indian bowlers were on target from the very first over and made life difficult for the home batters. The last time New Zealand scored seven or fewer runs at the end of the first five overs in an ODI was against India in the 2019 World Cup semifinal in Manchester. The Black Caps once again found themselves struggling against the Indian attack, with just seven runs on the board for the loss of one wicket after five overs.

India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first. Arshdeep Singh and Auqib Nabi made full use of the conditions and kept the New Zealand batters under pressure.

Arshdeep Singh starts with a maiden

Arshdeep gave India the perfect start by bowling a maiden over. Will Young found it difficult to deal with the left-arm pacer's movement and could not score a run in the first six balls.Auqib Nabi shared the new ball and struck in his first over. Tim Seifert, who faced five balls without scoring, tried to drive a full delivery but played the shot too early. He chipped the ball towards mid-on, where Anshul Kamboj took a good diving catch.

Auqib picked up his maiden ODI wicket as New Zealand lost their first wicket at just two runs.

New Zealand batters struggle to score

Henry Nicholls joined Young at the crease but the runs continued to be hard to come by. Auqib kept troubling the left-hander with deliveries that moved back into him.Arshdeep also maintained the pressure from the other end. New Zealand managed only two runs in the third over and two more in the fourth. At the end of five overs, New Zealand were 7/1.
