Two Nasarawa men kill, burn 50-year-old in dry well
The body of a 50-year-old man, identified as Jude Thaddeus, has been recovered from a dry well at his residence in Aku Village, Base 5, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, after he was allegedly killed and his remains set ablaze.
The police said two suspects, Yusuf Musa (23) and Victor Zamani (32), had been arrested in connection with the murder, while a third suspect was still at large.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the suspects allegedly dumped the victim’s body in the well and covered it with blocks in an attempt to conceal the crime.
According to the statement, the incident came to light on November 3 when a 46-year-old woman, Jennifer Alain, of Mpape, Abuja, reported the matter at the Aso Pada Police Division.
The police said one of the suspects, Musa, allegedly confessed during interrogation to his involvement in the killing and disclosed where the victim’s body had been dumped.
“During interrogation, Yusuf Musa allegedly confessed to his involvement in the killing of Jude Thaddeus and disclosed that the victim’s body had been dumped in a dry well within his residence,” the statement read.
The command said preliminary findings indicated that the victim was killed inside his residence before his body was taken to the well and set ablaze.
“Acting on the information provided, a team of detectives, in collaboration with environmental services personnel, visited the scene, where the decomposed remains of the victim were successfully exhumed from the dry well,” the statement added.
The remains were subsequently taken to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where a medical doctor examined and certified the victim dead.
The statement further disclosed that Yusuf allegedly confessed to selling some of the deceased’s heavy metals and industrial engines for N3.4m.
It said investigations had also established the involvement of a third suspect, who was still at large.
The command said efforts had been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and bring all those connected with the crime to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohamed, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
The command assured residents that investigations were ongoing and that everyone connected with the crime would be brought to justice.
