The Classic Thundercats Are Returning For The Team's Next Appearance

Translate

The classic Thundercats are returning for the team’s next appearance. For the last two years, Dynamite Entertainment has rejuvenated the Thundercats with a best-selling and critically acclaimed book, as well as a host of miniseries and one-shots. Now, two years later, the team is returning to their roots in an all-new series.

The Thundercats debuted in 1985 and was created by Tobin Wolf. Launched as a toy-line alongside an animated series, the Thundercats quickly took their place alongside Masters of the Universe and G.I. JOE in the hearts and minds of 80s kids who were thrilled by the team’s exploits fighting the evil Mumm-Ra. The line petered out by decade’s end, but has gone through a handful of revivals since, including Dynamite’s lauded 2024 reboot, which also saw the Thundercats meet the Silver Hawks.

Dynamite’s Thundercats reboot entered its next phase this fall with a new book, written by Greg Pak and drawn by David Cousens. Building off the recent crossover with the Silver Hawks, who now share Third Earth with the Thundercats, this new era in the team’s history will proudly carry their story forward. And while the Thundercats march onward, Dynamite will also look to the past in a brand-new book that celebrates the team’s 80s heyday.

Return To A Simpler Time in Dynamite's Thundercats '85

In this can’t-miss debut issue: It’s MUMM-RA VS. THE THUNDERCATS!!

Thundercats 85 COVER 2

For fans who grew up watching the Thundercats on television, or played with the toys, this new book is sure to delight. The Thundercats have a rich history in the comics in addition to animation. Marvel published the first Thundercats comics shortly after the cartoon debuted, and the publisher’s UK branch had great luck with the franchise too. Dynamite’s Thundercats ‘85 will keep this tradition going.

Thundercats Fans Will Be Eating Good In The Months Ahead

Thundercats 85 COVER 3

The Thundercats franchise came about at a time when the action figure industry in America was undergoing a renaissance, thanks to the success of Kenner’s Star Wars line, as well as Mattel’s Masters of the Universe and Hasbro’s G.I. JOE franchises. In response, other companies got in on the act. While Thundercats was created to compete with these lines, it stood on its own thanks to its rich lore and unique, well-developed characters, a winning mixture that also gives it a timeless quality that serves it well in reboots.

And Dynamite’s Thundercats ‘85 will remind fans of why they fell in love with the franchise in the first place.

And Dynamite’s Thundercats ‘85 will remind fans of why they fell in love with the franchise in the first place. The original Thundercats cartoon was jam-packed with action and thrills, and the publisher is promising its new book will deliver even more excitement. While some Thundercats revivals play the material more seriously than the original, Dynamite is dispensing with the grimness and crafting a fun romp that will harken back to a more innocent and carefree time.

Thundercats '85 #1 is on sale January 6 from Dynamite Comics!
