Ex-lawmaker enters Adamawa gov race, unveils 17-point agenda

A former member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Mr. Wafari Theman, has joined the 2027 governorship race in Adamawa State on the platform of the Young Progressive Party.

The former lawmaker, while unveiling his 17-point agenda on Monday in Yola, said he decided to contest the governorship election to introduce modern technology and skills-driven governance capable of accelerating development in the state.

According to him, technology could play a significant role in tackling insecurity in Adamawa, stressing that modern security operations had gone beyond conventional approaches.

“With modern technology now tackling insecurity in Adamawa State cannot be a difficult task.

Security has gone beyond carrying AK-47 into the forest. You use technology to detect where your enemies are and launch an attack without missing your target,” he said.

The YPP aspirant said that, if elected governor in 2027, he would establish a Security Trust Fund within his first 100 days in office as part of measures to address the state’s security challenges.

He said his 17-point manifesto was designed to be practical and evidence-based rather than theoretical.

Theman added that his security blueprint would adopt a broad-based approach involving traditional rulers, civil society organisations, religious groups, youths and women.

He said his administration would prioritise rural communities, where the majority of the state’s population resides, while seeking to revive cultural values through a coordinated platform involving relevant government officials and security agencies.

On education, the former lawmaker said his administration would give the sector “a new face of hope” by shifting emphasis from certificate-based education to skills acquisition.

“Under my government, no child will be out of school or denied the opportunity to have basic education on account of poverty or the financial standing of his or her parents,” he said.

On healthcare, Theman said his administration would address gaps in the state’s health sector, particularly in the areas of medical equipment, drug supply and other essential needs.

He said the 17-point agenda was designed to provide a practical roadmap for transforming Adamawa State if given the mandate to govern.
