I've said it a million times, but sci-fi games are having a huge resurgence. Sci-fi anything, really, because beyond Steam, countless sci-fi projects keep popping up, especially on streaming networks. The promise of the future can be scary, but it's also intriguing, and people can't help but wonder what's coming next.

Well, there's something already on Steam, and it looks to meld a gargantuan world like The Expanse with some Metal Gear Solid thrown in for good measure. With positive reviews, it's something you'll want to check out as a sci-fi fan, even if you don't normally gravitate to these kinds of games.

Sci-Fi & Stealth

Combat Stealth Robot

Studio Storm in a Teacup's Steel Seed has wowed fans since its release, especially for its darker sci-fi setting and the hero's relationship with her cute drone.

Following a "catastrophic event" that has permanently damaged Earth, machines have risen up and overtaken humanity. To help accomplish this, the heroic Zoe will have Koby, her "only ally", a prototype drone that can help you solve puzzles. You can use stealth to take down enemies and escape sticky situations, or jump straight into combat, with three skill trees and 40 upgrades. BAFTA-winning writer Martin Korda helped revise and edit the story to raise the stakes, exploring the relationship between humanity and machines.

Here's what you can expect: "Steel Seed — a gripping action-adventure game from the visionary team behind the critically acclaimed Close to the Sun, set in a dark sci-fi world where humanity stands on the brink of extinction. Join protagonist Zoe and her flying drone companion, KOBY, as they investigate the depths of a hostile underground facility in search of answers and the key to the survival of mankind."

The game is also still being updated. The last major patch was in May (which included tons of fixes and balance changes), and it came with a massive 50% discount that ran for a limited time.

Steel Seed Has Lots Of Fans

So far, the game has been enjoying positive reviews, with some praising the fast pace:

"A very fun and fast-paced game that was very good! I found the story very enjoyable, it was visually amazing with a lot of different skills that were fun to obtain by completing different challenges, giving you a lot of variety in approaching different areas in different ways. Very nice option to utilize your drone partner to scout, tag enemies and to use as a complementary fighting partner in the game. Koby for the win, da real MVP! I do absolutely recommend this game, way over my expectations!"

Others compare it favorably to AAA adventure games: "Just picked this up on sale. Reminds me quite a bit of Jedi Fallen/Survivor. The environments are super cool, very star warsy. Platforming is fast and responsive as is all movement. Combat is decently good, stealth is satisfying. All in all a very fun game especially for so cheap!"

Steel Seed is a perfect game to put on your Steam wishlist. One day it could go on sale, and according to fans, there's a lot to love about it.
