Russell Brand scolded woman about his bed sheets after she was injured in alleged rape, court told

Russell Brand scolded a woman telling her she was “disgusting” and “look what you have done to my f****** sheets” after he allegedly raped her, a court heard.

The celebrity is accused of anally raping the fan who was in her early 20s during a sexual encounter at his townhouse in Hampstead, north London, in 2009, after meeting her at one of his comedy gigs.

In the weeks, months and years after the incident the woman told multiple friends, her parents and a work colleague that the star had ignored her pleas for him to stop, Southwark Crown Court heard on Thursday, telling one that the incident had left her “humiliated, scared and violated, and in a lot of physical pain”.

Several of them advised her that she had been raped and urged her to go to the police, but she feared she wouldn’t be believed, the jury heard.

The former Big Brother’s Big Mouth presenter and Hollywood actor denies three charges of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one allegation of indecent assault in alleged attacks against six women as he rose to fame between 1999 and 2009.

The star, wearing a grey suit and white scarf, sat motionless in the dock as evidence from more than 20 of the woman’s friends, family and colleagues was put before the jury.

A statement from the woman’s mother, read by junior prosecution counsel Suki Dhadda, said her daughter had told her about the alleged attack, including how she was “screaming out in pain” while telling Brand to stop. Afterwards, the comic told her to change the sheets, the mother’s statement added.

A work colleague also recalled the woman recounting the alleged attack after she arrived at her office looking “ashen-faced” before she broke down in tears.

The woman was crying and struggling to speak as she recalled how they had consensual sex before Brand turned her over and “got quite aggressive” and began having anal sex with her, the colleague told the jury from the witness box.

“She said ‘I just couldn’t stop it, I couldn’t stop it’,” the colleague said, adding that she told her it “really f***** hurt”.

Afterwards, Brand shouted at her and told her to clean up the mess that she had made, the colleague said, adding: “She was bleeding everywhere… and he shouted at her, Mr Brand, and said look what you have done to my f****** sheets.”

The witness added: “I asked if she had consented and she said ‘no, no I didn’t consent to that’.

“I said to her ‘you’ve been raped’, and she said ‘nobody will believe me’.”

A friend, who the woman also told about the alleged attack, said Brand scolded her and told her she was “disgusting” as he instructed her to clean up, adding: “He had gone from being charming to violent and cold-hearted.”

She added the experience left the woman “humiliated, scared, violated and in a lot of physical pain”.

Another long-term friend said the woman was a “bright, bubbly and confident girl before this experience”.

“This experience definitely changed her,” she added. “It’s like she lost respect for herself after that.”

It comes after the jury heard the woman , who was a massive fan of the comic, was “selected” by Brand and invited backstage at the Hammersmith Apollo after watching one of his standup gigs in 2009.

The comedian had signed off the comedy show by saying: “If you see me out in the foyer and you think ‘I really fancy him and would like to have sex with him, but I can’t because it is Russell Brand’, you probably can… my age range is from 16 to death,” the court heard.

The alleged victim told police she willingly had a threesome with the star in his dressing room at the theatre, then later went to his Hampstead home knowing they would have sex. But she alleges their consensual encounter became rape when Brand took the condom off and started having anal sex with her.

On Thursday morning, one of the woman’s friends who was at the Apollo gig recalled her being “excited and flattered” by messages from Brand that she received from the comedian after the threesome.

She told the court Brand “sent a car to collect her” and her friend recalled being told to wait in a room at Brand’s home “until he was free to see her”.

The friend said the alleged victim recalled Brand being “quite aggressive”, and she told her of “forcibly” anal sex which “really, really hurt her” and Brand turning “really nasty” afterwards.

“I asked if she was OK, I told her that was awful and I asked specifically ‘did you say no?’, and she said ‘yes, lots of times’.”

Another friend said the experience left the alleged victim feeling “degraded” in a statement read to the court.

“Initially they had penetrative sex which was consensual but then there was anal sex where she said no but he persisted,” the statement added.

“He thought he could do what he wanted. I believe there was blood and he made her clean up the bed which made her feel degraded and very uncomfortable.”
