Probe into Felda’s KLVC project complete, MACC to press charges

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission says it has completed its investigation into allegations of misappropriation involving the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project, linked to Felda and its investment arm, Felda Investment Corporation (FIC).

MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman said statements from 30 witnesses, including Felda board members and management, had been recorded in connection with the KLVC investigation, which has now been completed, Bernama reported.

He said a former Felda director-general and a former FIC chief executive officer were arrested last Sunday.

“MACC will recommend that charges be brought against the two individuals based on the investigation papers,” he told a press conference in Kajang today.

“We will seek the Attorney General’s Chambers’ consent to proceed with the prosecution and other related matters.”

Halim said former Felda chairman Isa Samad had his statement taken by MACC at the Sungai Buloh prison on Thursday.

The statement was recorded in connection with seven investigations into alleged misappropriation, abuse of power and corruption involving investments at Felda and FIC.

“The statement was recorded at Sungai Buloh prison on Sept 17. It is expected to continue next week.

“As of Sept 18, a total of 34 witnesses have been called and their statements recorded in connection with the seven cases being investigated by MACC. They include former Felda board members and former FIC board members,” he said.

The investigations, dubbed Op Fella by the anti-graft agency, are focused on investment transactions and asset acquisitions by Felda and FIC over a 10-year period from 2010.

MACC’s fertiliser supply probe

Bernama also reported that MACC has recorded statements from agriculture and food security minister Mohamad Sabu and the ministry’s secretary-general in connection with an investigation into the delays in the supply of fertiliser in Kedah.

Halim said Mohamad’s statement was recorded on Sept 16, and the secretary-general’s statement a day earlier.

So far, 37 witnesses had been called and their statements recorded to assist in the investigation, which began on Aug 26, regarding the appointment of a company by the agriculture and food security ministry.

“The investigation is ongoing, and is expected to be finalised within a week or two,” Halim said.
