On Friday, one of college football's most meaningful uniforms will carry even more emotion than usual.
For years, Boston College has worn its "Red Bandanna" uniforms for one game every season, an alternate look with a powerful backstory. The uniforms, donned for the school's annual "Red Bandanna Game," pay tribute to Boston College alum Welles Crowther. Crowther, who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, is credited with saving a number of lives while wearing a red bandanna.
With the Eagles' Week 2 matchup against Rutgers on Friday night coming on the same date as the 25th anniversary of the attacks, the team will be wearing the special uniform. It features red bandana pattern elements throughout, most prominently on the jersey's sleeves and center logo, as well as on a helmet stripe. "FOR WELLES" is on the back of each jersey in lieu of a traditional nameplate.
The Scarlet Knights will be honoring their connection to Sept. 11 as well: Their pants are emblazoned on the side with the words "Never Forget," while the helmets feature an American flag-colored No. 37, representing the number of Rutgers alumni who died in the attacks.
These tributes aren't the only strong uniforms from Week 2 of the college football season. Here are the best looks from around the nation.

Tulane
New Orleans' famed Mardi Gras tradition offers plenty of inspiration for Tulane's "City Edition" alternates, and the Green Wave took the city's colorful staple to the max when creating the uniforms.
Tulane will rock the City Edition threads -- which feature a bright green base color, blocked font lettering and numbers and an on-theme "Jester Angry Wave" motif that tweaks the usual Green Wave logo -- against South Alabama this weekend.
Georgia
Week 2 will mark a historic occurrence for Georgia football: It will be the first time the Bulldogs will wear all-white uniforms.
The program's usual red-and-black color scheme has been relegated to accents and number colors for just this week, as Georgia will pair white pants with a white jersey and helmet for a clean, original color-coordinated look.
Florida
Georgia isn't the only team putting a twist on their traditional uniform combinations this week -- Florida is doing the same.
Normally, the Gators pair a white helmet with a blue, white or orange jersey. But not this weekend, as they'll break out a blue helmet featuring a script orange "Gators" wordmark to pair with a set of orange jerseys.
North Carolina State
North Carolina State donning its "Wolfpack Warriors" uniform for Week 2, which pay homage to the military tradition of the school and the state of North Carolina. The all-black look features red letters on a camouflage pattern and a red wolfpack logo on a matte black helmet.
Kennesaw State
Another team, another new uniform combination this weekend, this time down in Cobb County, Georgia, with Kennesaw State.
The Owls are going with a gold-on-gold theme, with gold pants and a gold jersey -- with owl wing sleeve decals to boot -- matched with a classic black helmet.
Colorado State
It's Colorado State's "Ag Day" this weekend, which means the Rams are breaking out a distinctive set of alternate uniforms.
Traditionally, Colorado State plays in green and white. While those colors are both represented in the Rams' Ag Day alternates, they do so while in the backseat to a different color -- bright orange. The school also uses a different logo for the annual game and uniforms, with the helmet sporting an alternate ram design.
