Coronation Street and Emmerdale off air again this week as ITV shakes up schedule for sports coverage

Sports coverage is about to disrupt scheduled editions of Coronation Street and Emmerdale again this week.

The soaps typically air in what broadcast ITV has dubbed as a "power hour", each weekday evening at 8pm. This new time slot was introduced to provide consistency and to help navigate the disruption that the footy causes annually.

However, since then, both serial dramas have been repeatedly shifted to accommodate other programmes.

This week will sadly see them off air tomorrow (29 September), because of the UEFA Nations League Live. Czechia will play England, with kick-off at 7.45pm. Mark Pougatch presents all the action from the second Group A3 match for both teams, held at Fortuna Arena in Prague.

Soap viewers will undoubtedly be wondering when they can tune into their next slice of Weatherfield or Dales action. Luckily, there isn't long to wait.

Emmerdale returns Wednesday 30 September at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm.

It's a busy week in the Dales as the King family edge closer to their final goodbye to Jimmy (Nick Miles). His ex-wife Sadie (Patsy Kensit) continues to scheme, while his most recent spouse Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) still hasn't listened to a very telling voice note that would expose it.

Meanwhile, as Gabby Thomas's (Rosie Bentham) health declines, Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) hands her a diagnosis.

Over on the cobbles, after Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) was taken in for questioning, Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) is still wondering who pushed her down the Rovers' cellar stairs.

Eventually, Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) comes clean – leaving Nick Tilsley (Ben Price), Toyah and Leanne Battersby (Georgia Taylor and Jane Danson) speechless. They also learn that he's run up 6k worth of debt on Nick's credit card.

What will happen to Sam?

Emmerdale usually airs weeknights at 8pm and Coronation Street usually airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1. Both can be streamed from 7am that day on ITVX.
