Documentarian Erin Lee Carr’s latest project is a deep dive into The Swan, the 2004 reality show widely considered one of the most unethical and sadistic in TV history. The premise? Take self-proclaimed “ugly ducklings,” and, over the course of three months, transform them into a “Swan.” The method? Extreme makeovers via a team that included a personal trainer, therapist, dentist and multiple cosmetic surgeons. The winner? The “most successful” transformation, aka “The Swan.”
