A free download for a 10/10 masterpiece JRPG has just been officially dropped on Nintendo Switch 2, and if you’re a fan of the genre, you’ll want to make sure you don’t miss this freebie. While tons of exclusive games are being released for Nintendo’s current-gen hardware, we’re also seeing several previously available titles enhanced and re-released for the platform. For example, the first two Octopath Traveler games joined Nintendo Switch 2 this month, offering improved graphics, enhanced frame rates, and much more. These ports are continuously being added to the Switch 2 ecosystem.

Now we’re getting a new one. Ahead of the port’s official release on Nintendo Switch 2 in November, a free download for this 10/10 JRPG has been made available. As was reported by RPG Site, the demo for the upcoming game is now available, and you can download and play it entirely for free. The Prologue Demo represents the very beginning of the full version of the game, and its save data can be transferred into the game, should you choose to purchase and play it.

The demo in question is for the Metaphor: ReFantazio port for Nintendo Switch 2. On its product page in the Nintendo eShop, where you can pre-order the game, you can instead opt to download the demo. This is entirely free, no strings attached. The only issue is that you may need to open up some storage space, as the demo’s download size is reportedly 29.8 GB. This will be the first time the game will be playable on the Nintendo ecosystem, as it was not released for the original Nintendo Switch.

The game’s port for Nintendo Switch 2 was announced during this June’s Nintendo Direct event, the same presentation that confirmed the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, showcased a new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer, and more. Metaphor: ReFantazio will be officially released for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 12 this year, so playing the demo right now could be a great way of getting yourself ready for the huge JRPG adventure to come.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a turn-based JRPG from the creators of Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5. In fact, there are several similarities between this new IP and Persona – so much so that Metaphor: ReFantazio is often described as a high fantasy Persona. Released in 2024 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Metaphor: ReFantazio redefined JRPGs, becoming one of the best games that year.

If you haven’t played this game yet, checking it out via its new free demo may be the way to go. Metaphor: ReFantazio is certainly worth the time, and if you’re already a fan of JRPGs, playing it on Nintendo Switch 2 may be the ultimate experience.
