30 years after its initial release, Quentin Tarantino’s gloriously bizarre horror movie from the 90s can now be found for free. The decade was a golden age for genre filmmaking, with many directors trying to push boundaries and mix up different influences to create something they couldn’t really label. Quentin Tarantino was one of the few who truly embraced the freedom and made a name for himself through his unique dialogue, unforgettable characters, and love of going all out.

Quentin had a huge impact on independent films throughout the period. He often worked with other directors and created some interesting results. This is especially true when his writing was mixed with someone with very different visual styles. This resulted in some unpredictable and sometimes wild movies that are often far more entertaining.

Horror lovers will be happy to know that this particular highly loved movie is now available to watch for free. Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn, originally released in 1996, can now be streamed for free on Tubi in the US.

From Dusk Till Dawn Is Now Available To Stream For Free On Tubi

The Gecco brothers look into a car trunk in From Dusk Till Dawn

From Dusk Till Dawn was written by Tarantino and directed by Rodriguez. It depicts George Clooney as Seth Gecko, a dangerous criminal on a road trip across the Mexican border with his unpredictable brother Richard (played by Tarantino). The pair take Jacob Fuller (Harvey Keitel), his kids Kate (Juliette Lewis) and Scott (Ernest Liu) hostage and use them to help them avoid getting caught. It is, however, the final act that makes From Dusk till Dawn truly stand out.

From Dusk Till Dawn also stars Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo and Fred Williamson. It also boasts special effects by horror legend Tom Savini. It can now be found on Tubi to stream for free. This free-to-watch (ad-supported) service means audiences can enjoy this cult classic without paying for another streaming service. However, please note that this may vary depending on location.

Quentin Tarantino's Genre-Bending Twist Makes It A Horror Classic Quentin Tarantino in From Dusk Till Dawn

The most remarkable thing about From Dusk Till Dawn is that it effectively disguises itself as an entirely different movie for its first half. Tarantino's screenplay initially plays like a particularly nasty crime thriller, with the tension coming from the increasingly volatile relationship between Seth and Richard.

Then the movie makes one of the most outrageous genre switches in 1990s cinema. When the characters arrive at the Titty Twister, a seedy Mexican bar, the crime thriller completely disappears, replaced by an unapologetic vampire horror movie. The establishment's seemingly ordinary clientele turn out to be bloodthirsty supernatural creatures, leaving the Gecko brothers and their hostages fighting for survival against an entirely different kind of threat.

It is such a surprise that it feels like watching a completely different movie. However, Rodriguez does this with enough confidence that it's impossible not to enjoy the carnage. Indeed, the main reason it works so well is that the relationships built up in the first act are so compelling that it’s impossible not to care about the characters when the vampires are revealed.

Seth's attempts to control his brother are no longer about avoiding the police, while Jacob's crisis of faith takes on an entirely different significance when confronted with something genuinely monstrous. Rodriguez fully embraces this change with some gross practical effects, crazy violence, and a brilliant sleazy vibe.

Hayek gives a memorable and beguiling performance as Santanico Pandemonium. Meanwhile, Tom Savini’s practical effects are among his most gloriously decadent. Instead of being a film of two halves, From Dusk till Dawn uses the bizarre combination to its advantage. Very few vampire films have had as much fun as From Dusk till Dawn, making it essential viewing for horror fanatics.
