Done Deal: Former Flying Eagles Captain Joins Finnish Club FC Inter Turku

Former Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has completed a move to Finnish club FC Inter Turku.

The 20-year-old defender joins Inter Turku following a spell with Slovenian outfit ND Primorje, where he gained his first experience of European club football.

Bameyi moved to Primorje from Nigerian academy Yum-Yum FC in September 2025 and featured six times in the Slovenian top flight.

The versatile defender, who can operate at centre-back, right-back and in defensive midfield, will initially link up with Inter Turku’s reserve side, Inter 2, who compete in the Finnish Ykkönen.

Inter Turku stated that Bameyi’s arrival is aimed at strengthening the reserve team as the club enters the decisive stage of the season.

Bameyi has built an impressive reputation at international level after representing Nigeria across different age-grade teams.

He captained the Flying Eagles at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where Nigeria reached the quarter-finals before losing to South Korea after extra time.

The defender also featured at the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, helping Nigeria secure a third-place finish.

Bameyi remained an important figure for the Flying Eagles two years later, captaining the team to another third-place finish at the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Egypt and earning a place in the competition’s Best XI.

He subsequently led Nigeria at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, scoring a dramatic stoppage-time penalty in the 3-2 victory over Saudi Arabia. Nigeria eventually reached the Round of 16.

Bameyi has also been involved with Nigeria’s U-23 and senior national teams, underlining his status as one of the country’s highly-rated young defenders.

The move to Finland provides him with another opportunity to continue his development in European football and push for a place in Inter Turku’s first team.
