‘Scarlet Heart Ullavee’

GMMTV has renamed its upcoming series “Scarlet Heart Thailand” to “Scarlet Heart Ullavee” following an online controversy over claims that its costumes resemble traditional Burmese royal attire.

The controversy arose after Myanmar social media users pointed out similarities between the costumes featured in the series and clothing worn in the former Burmese royal court.

GMMTV subsequently issued a statement explaining that the story is set in a fictional city called Ullavee. It said the costumes were inspired by various Asian cultures and were not intended to claim or portray any particular cultural elements as exclusively Thai.

The production company also said it respects cultural diversity and all cultural backgrounds.

The series is adapted from the Chinese novel “Bu Bu Jing Xin” by Tong Hua. It follows a modern woman who travels back in time and finds herself in the body of Fong Nuan, a woman from Ullavee, where she becomes caught up in a power struggle among seven princes, as well as a story of love and fate.

The cast includes Win Metawin, Tu Tontawan, Nanon Korapat, Tay Tawan, Fourth Nattawat, Phuwin Tangsakyuen, Perth Tanapon and Force Jiratchapong.
