Red Dead Redemption 2 is almost eight years old but still remains one of the most immersive gaming experiences to ever exist. It's an amazing open world teeming with life and glorious details forces players to slow down and drink it all in. Living the life of a bandit on the run, though, isn't for everyone and many would love to see Arthur Morgan settle down and build a life away from the gunfire. But while most of the spotlight this year is on another upcoming Rockstar game, there's still life left in RDR2.

Not all mods are made equal and when it comes to Red Dead Redemption 2, you can really go down a rabbit hole if you're not careful. Thanks to NexusMods, the Ranching mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 is truly something special. Red Dead Redemption 2 already offers players some escapism through hunting, fishing, herding and looking after your camp. But getting even more content and new ways to play is always welcome when it's as good as this.

The Ranching mod allows players to work on ranches across the world map to earn some extra coin. There are seven locations scattered across the wild west that Arthur can seek work at. Jobs include planting seeds, feeding chickens, spreading hay and refilling water troughs, to name but a few. If gang life and train heists are stressing you out, you can always kick back and earn an honest living for a change. You can even work on McFarlane ranch and drink in some nostalgia for the original Red Dead Redemption game. Getting something for free for Red Dead Redemption 2 is never a bad thing either.

But the main reason this mod is so special is that it allows you to own and run your very own ranch. Forget working for others, Arthur Morgan can carve his own slice of paradise in the world and live out the simple life. You can grow crops to fruition, harvest them, load up your wagon and sell your produce to the locals. Beecher's Hope is expanded for ranching purposes, or you can purchase ranches in three other locations. Argile Rise, Ridge View Cabin, Shepard's Rise Cabin are available to purchase thanks to the Ranching mod.

Roleplaying as either a ranch hand or a ranch owner in Red Dead Redemption 2 is just another great reason to get lost in this amazing world created by Rockstar Games. Stardew Valley crossed with Wild West shenanigans sounds like a perfect balance of calm and chaos. Sure, you could spend your time robbing banks and escaping from the law, but the simple life of raising animals and crowing crops sounds like a peaceful escape inside one of the greatest games of all time.

With November 19th fast approaching, Grand Theft Auto 6 is about to take over most of our gaming lives for a few months at least. So now is the perfect time to jump back into Red Dead Redemption 2 before GTA arrives.
