Taylor Hanson Eliminated Following ‘Yacht Rock’ Special of ‘DWTS’: Watch

Taylor Hanson has done his last routine on Dancing with the Stars.

The 43-year-old Hanson co-founder slipped into his dancing shoes once again for Tuesday night’s (Sept. 29) edition of DWTS, which cruised into the first-ever “Yacht Rock Night.”

The remaining 13 celebrities and their pro partners had the task of dancing “to smooth grooves, soft-rock classics and iconic hits that defined the yacht rock era,” according to a statement from ABC, a musical lineup that included songs by Toto and Hall & Oates.

Wearing an all-white three-piece suit, Hanson and his dancing partner Britt Stewart, in a matching white dress, danced the Foxtrot to one of greatest works in the genre, Doobie Brothers’ “What A Fool Believes” – a Billboard Hot 100 leader back in 1979.

Many followers thought they’d done enough, including the DWTS social team. “Believe us, Taylor and Britt’s Foxtrot will live rent-free in our mind,” reads a post from the contest’s official Instagram.

Sadly, for Hanson and Stewart, the judges and viewers didn’t believe.

Hanson appeared more wooden than in his previous dances, which included a Quickstep to Billy Joel’s “Tell Her About It” and a Cha Chat to DNCE’s “Cake By The Ocean.”

When the votes were tallied, the pair scored just 18 out of 30 and were eliminated from the competition.

Speaking ahead of the season 35 premiere, Stewart said that Hanson was fully-committed. “Meeting Taylor was amazing. I was born in ’89, so I grew up in the ’90s, and that’s when Hanson was number one on the charts. I am a millennial so I can appreciate the significance of Taylor Hanson and how awesome it is for him to be on Dancing With the Stars,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

“I kind of sighed in relief when he told me during our first meet, “I will do whatever you need me to do. If that means buying a cot and sleeping at the dance studio so we can rehearse all the time, that is what I will do.” I was like, Okay, he wants to work for this. He’s in it to win it. That commitment is so important.”

Now, they head for the exit.

Hanson and Stewart join previously ousted contestants Conner Leavitt (Secret Lives of Mormon Wives), Sarah Jane Nader (Love Thy Nader) and celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis.

Hanson made his fame as one of the three Hanson brothers — including Isaac and Zac — who ascended to pop stardom in the late ’90s. The Tulsa, Okla.-based trio topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1997 with their smash hit “MMMBop,” which also scored Grammy nominations for record of the year and best pop performance by a duo or group with vocal.

He was the standout pop artist in Season 35 of DWTS, which airs live Tuesday night 8pm on ABC and Disney+, streaming the next day on Hulu.
