Genk head coach Jess Thorup has praised Rafiu Durosinmi following his impressive display in the club’s 2-0 victory over Virton in the Belgian Cup.

The Smurfs secured their place in the next round of the competition with a comfortable win, with Durosinmi getting on the scoresheet.

The Nigeria international netted Genk’s second goal in the 28th minute, taking his tally to seven goals across all competitions for the Belgian Pro League side.

Thorup expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, highlighting their mentality, effectiveness in duels and ability to execute the game plan.

“I especially liked our first half. We won the duels and found the solutions in the way we agreed in advance. We scored two great goals. After that, qualifying was never compromised. I especially liked the mentality of my players,” Thorup was quoted as saying by Het Belang van Limburg.

The Genk boss also praised the quality of his attacking options and goalkeeper Leysen, noting the strength of his two centre-forwards.

“We have two strong center-forward, and the appearance of goalkeeper Leysen,” he added.

Durosinmi joined Genk from Italian club Pisa during the summer transfer window and has continued to make his mark with his goalscoring contributions.
