SHIZUOKA, Oct 2 — National track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang secured the country’s eighth gold medal after winning the men’s keirin at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games at the Izu Velodrome here today.
The 38-year-old produced a superb burst of speed on the final bend to overtake China’s Li Zhiwei, who had taken the lead earlier, to claim the gold medal.
Another Malaysian in the final, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, finished fifth.
China’s Xie Han won the bronze medal.
Earlier, the Pocket Rocketman advanced to the final after finishing first in the second semi-final heat, while Shah Firdaus finished third in the first heat. — Bernama
