Prime Video Officially Revives Hit Horror Franchise With a New Zombie Nightmare

The safest place in a zombie outbreak is wherever the infected cannot reach you. For the survivors of Prime Video’s Apocalypse Z, that meant getting away from the Spanish mainland as the TSJ virus tore through it. Reaching the Canary Islands bought them time, but surviving there is going to require more than staying put.

The first movie followed a much more personal fight to stay alive, with Manel sheltering at home alongside his cat as the world outside collapsed. Its follow-up is widening the scope: a group of survivors has to leave Europe’s last refuge and return to the place they escaped. They are heading back for supplies, and the infected will not be the only danger waiting for them.

Apocalypse Z: Part II, officially titled Apocalypse Z: New World, premieres on Prime Video October 30. The Spanish horror sequel follows a special mission from the Canary Islands to the mainland in search of vital supplies. Roberto joins the team with motives that may not match everyone else’s, leaving the group to contend with both hordes of infected and distrust among themselves. The movie will have its U.S. premiere at Los Angeles’ Screamfest Horror Film Festival on October 13.

‘Apocalypse Z’ Is Sending Its Survivors Back Into Danger

The Canary Islands have become Europe’s last refuge following the outbreak, but the mission makes clear that refuge comes with limits. Supplies are worth risking a journey to the infected mainland, even when the people making that journey cannot be sure they can trust one another. Roberto’s questionable intentions add another threat to an operation that would be dangerous even if every member of the team were working toward the same goal. Carles Torrens returns to direct the sequel, which Ángel Agudo wrote based on Manel Loureiro’s novels. The cast includes Carlos Alcaide, Julia Martínez, José María Yazpik, Berta Vázquez, and Mónica López. Prime Video describes the sequel as a larger ensemble story, expanding beyond the survival journey at the center of 2024’s Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End.

Prime Video has called the original one of its most-watched movies internationally, and subscribers can stream it now before the next chapter arrives. Horror fans in Los Angeles will get an earlier look when the sequel screens at Screamfest on October 13. Apocalypse Z: New World begins streaming worldwide on October 30, just in time for a Halloween zombie double feature.
