Break-in attempt at ex-US VP Kamala Harris' Malibu house

A trespasser was stopped at former US Vice President Kamala Harris’ Malibu property Friday night after private security spotted the individual entering the premises, authorities and Harris’ spokesperson said.Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not at the property at the time, spokesperson Eduardo Negrón said to news agency NewsNation. He added that security personnel present stopped the individual before they could get to the actual house. Negrón also mentioned that Harris and her husband were grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly.News agency TMZ also spoke with a spokesperson from the Los Angeles county sheriff’s department who confirmed that the Malibu Lost Hills deputies were called to the property around 10.30 pm following a report of a suspicious person.

The individual had already been stopped by private security and was outside the property when deputies arrived.The Times had initially reported that deputies were contacted by security after “a woman made it to Harris’ front door” but Negrón told NewsNation that she did not make it that far and was intercepted.Deputies warned the trespasser to leave, and the person left voluntarily without incident, the department said.

No arrest was made.Authorities said patrols around the property were being increased as a precaution.Harris and Emhoff bought the Malibu beach house for $8.15 million in December. The purchase had fuelled speculation about Harris’ political plans, including whether she could seek another presidential run in 2028.The incident has also drawn renewed attention to Harris’ security arrangements. Former President Joe Biden had extended Harris’ federal protection beyond the standard six-month period for former vice presidents, but President Donald Trump ended that protection in 2025.California governor Gavin Newsom said the California Highway Patrol would take over security responsibilities for Harris. The cost of the state-funded security detail has not been disclosed.
