FIFA U-17 WWC: Ex-Delta Queens Coach Blankson Confident Flamingos Will Beat Japan In Final
Coach Tosan Blankson, former Delta Queens and Rivers Angels Head Coach has in no unclear terms spoken of his confidence the Nigeria U-17 Women’s National Team, Flamingos, will lift the 2026 FIFA U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time, Completesports.com reports.
Flamingos will on Saturday, 7 November, 2026, file out against 2014 winners and three time finalists, Japan, inside Pitch 3 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco.
It will be Japan’s fourth final appearance in history following previous final appearances in 2010, 2014, and 2016, lifting the title in their second final appearance in 2014.
Flamingos best credentials was a bronze medal win in India in 2022 when Spain scooped the title.
Despite an apparent shortfall in final experience, Blankson remains confident that Flamingos will make the most of their first ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final appearance.

“Before the team (Flamingos) departed for Morocco for the tournament, I predicted they will reach the final”, Blankson, who played for Rangers and Heartland as left-back defender during his playing days began Friday morning when Completesports.com spoke with him.
“They have proved me right. And now that they are in the final, I don’t see Japan stopping them. I see them coming home with the trophy. This, I’m sure of.”
Asked the source of his confidence, Blankson responded that Coach of the team, Akeem Busari, is an experienced grassroots football coach, disciplined, focused and hard working.
“Coach (Akeem) Busari is a thorough grassroots football coach. He has eyes for quality talents, highly disciplined, focused and hard working.
“These,he has brought into the team. Looking at the team, you’ll notice a high level of quality and potential in the girls and this reflects in the way they play,” Blankson said.
To reach the final, Flamingos swept off Almighty Brazil 3 – 1 in the semi final while Japan, on the other hand, saw off Democratic People’s Republic of Korea 4 – 1 on penalties after a 1-1 at regulation time.
