Marcos says gov't working with stakeholders to prevent, address school violence

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday assured the public that the government is coordinating with stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure school environment, saying that school shootings are “unacceptable.”

Marcos made the statement during the Recognition of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) Participating Schools and Education Partners in Pasay City.

“Be assured that the government is working closely with our teachers, parents, barangay workers, and other stakeholders to make schools more secure,” Marcos said during his speech.

“We are committed to providing our youth, our parents, and our community with the knowledge and resources to prevent and respond to school violence,” he added.

Marcos reported that the government hired 10,000 school counselors for the school year 2026-2027, a move to promote a “safe and positive” learning environment for students.

“Hindi katanggap-tanggap 'yung mga pangyayari na nakita natin sa Tacloban, sa Zamboanga, sa South Cotabato,” the President said.

“Ayaw na ayaw natin na nakikita na hindi tayo nakakasiguro, hindi tayo nakakatiyak na ang ating mga eskwelahan ay ligtas. [Gusto natin ang] mga kabataan ay nasa environment na kaya nilang mag-aral ng mabuti,” he added.

In late June, two students, aged 15 and 14, were involved in a shooting incident that left three people dead and 11 others wounded at San Jose National High School in Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City.

The tragic Zamboanga school shooting left two students dead, including the shooter at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

Meanwhile, at least three students, including the shooter himself, died in a shooting incident at Banga National High School in Banga, South Cotabato. —AOL, GMA News
