‘I would completely collapse’: Parineeti Chopra reveals why playing mother searching for her missing baby in ‘Shaque’ was emotionally unbearable

Parineeti Chopra has spoken about the emotional challenge of portraying a mother whose newborn daughter goes missing in her debut web series, 'Shaque'. The actor plays a woman who spends years searching for her child after the baby disappears from her crib. The story follows her character as the search gradually takes over her life. Her desperation also affects her mental state as she becomes increasingly paranoid while trying to uncover what happened to her daughter.Parineeti Chopra began filming the thriller before discovering that she was pregnant in 2025. A substantial part of the project had already been completed when she learned about her pregnancy.

Why Parineeti Chopra called the timing a blessing

In an interview with Hindustan Times, the actor said she believes that not having experienced motherhood during the initial shoot helped her handle some of the most painful scenes.

She felt her performance could have been much more difficult if she had already become a mother.“It was some sort of blessing in disguise that I had just started my journey at that time. I didn’t have that real-life experience to draw from. Thank God for that, because the kind of mom I am, it would have been unbearable for me to say those lines and do those scenes. I would not be able to differentiate too much.”Parineeti Chopra said her own emotional connection to motherhood could have blurred the distinction between her life and the character's circumstances.

The series required her to repeatedly portray the pain of losing a child.

Parineeti Chopra says she could have collapsed

The actor also reflected on how differently she might have approached the role if she had already given birth before filming it. She admitted that the story's central situation is deeply painful for her to imagine. “When I think about Shaque and the things that are happening to this character, I feel unbearable pain. I think I would completely collapse.

I would cry in every scene. I wonder what performance that would have been,” Parineeti Chopra's character is forced to live with uncertainty while continuing her search for her missing daughter.

That emotional conflict forms a major part of the thriller.

Motherhood has changed Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra became a mother after much of 'Shaque' had been filmed. She said the experience has since given her a different perspective while approaching emotionally demanding characters.

The actor feels that she can now draw from her own experience without allowing it to overwhelm her performance. She also believes she has gained greater emotional strength after settling into her new role as a mother. “Today, if I have to enact a role, I will approach it with much more strength because I am starting to settle into this role of mine as a mother.
