Thai Airways board removes CEO after service disruptions

Chai Eamsiri

The board of Thai Airways International has voted to remove CEO Chai Eamsiri from his position, effective Friday (2 October), following major disruptions to passenger services at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The decision was made at a board meeting chaired by Lavaron Sangsanit, permanent secretary of the Finance Ministry and chairman of Thai Airways’ board.

The meeting was held to review the airline’s handling of passenger services after staff shortages affected ground operations, baggage handling and flights, resulting in significant delays.

The board also considered measures to prevent similar disruptions in the future, as well as Chai’s management of the airline.

Chai’s term had been due to run until January 2027.

The board appointed Samrit Samniang, a former PTT executive, as acting CEO.

Chai previously served as chairman of Thai Smile Airways, chief financial and accounting officer at Thai Airways and deputy executive vice-president for finance and accounting.

Thai Airways has been recruiting a new CEO, with applications closing on 30 September.
