KAMPAR, Sept 28 — An elderly woman was found dead, believed to have been stabbed by her 49-year-old daughter in an incident at Lorong Kledang Utara 6, Taman Wang, Menglembu near Ipoh yesterday.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 70-year-old victim was found with a stab wound to her chest and was believed to have been killed by her daughter, who has a history of mental health treatment.

He said police received a report from the victim’s son-in-law at about 7pm.

“Her mother, who was bedridden and required intensive care, had just been brought home from an old folks’ home in Pusing and was being cared for by her daughter and son-in-law. The daughter also has a history of psychiatric treatment.

“We have detained the suspect, who will be remanded until Oct 4 to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code,” he told a press conference at the Kampar district police headquarters here today.

Mohd Alwi said police also seized a knife believed to have been used in the incident.

In a separate development, Mohd Alwi said the son of a disabled woman who was found dead at her home in Kampung Cheh Kati, Kuala Kangsar on Sept 23 had been sent to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for further treatment.

He said the 15-year-old boy had previously been remanded together with his 44-year-old father to assist investigations into the case.

The media previously reported that a 49-year-old woman was found dead, lying in a pool of blood in the living room of her house in the village.

Kuala Kangsar police chief ACP Heisham Harun said police received a report on the incident at 2.38pm after family members found the victim lying face down and unconscious. — Bernama
