The Amazing Race celebrates its 25th birthday this year with a 39th season. The new season of the globetrotting competition series will see 13 teams of interesting characters racing across nine countries, including Morocco, Sri Lanka, Australia, Canada, and — for the first time — Albania. Season 39 will also be the first without a stop in the contiguous United States.

As with past seasons, the winning team will go home with a grand prize of $1 million. Phil Keoghan is also back to host the action-packed series’ new entry.

This season is personally significant for Keoghan, since the filming took the cast to the host’s hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand. After the town was mostly destroyed during an earthquake in 2011, Keoghan vowed to bring The Amazing Race there once it was rebuilt.

Keoghan also said that Albania was “fascinating”: “I had no idea that they had over 150 to 200,000 underground bunkers that were set up for the Cold War,” the host told Parade. “Thank God none were ever used because of a nuclear explosion.”
