The Inbetweeners fan has "perfect" theory for the long-awaited Netflix sequel

Translate

Fans of The Inbetweeners got some good news earlier this week as Netflix confirmed that a third film of the hit franchise was in development. But with no plot details, speculation has been rife.

The only things we know about the project are that Damon Beesley and Iain Morris will be returning to write and direct, while Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas will reprise their respective roles.

Naturally, with the previous film being released over a decade ago, it is likely that Will, Jay, Neil and Simon will be at different points in their lives, but it remains to be seen what brings the iconic quartet back together.

That hasn't stopped fans from developing their own theories, with one fan on Reddit supplying their own ideas. In a detailed post, they outlined where each character would be in their lives, and even suggested some plot details.

They thought that Will, the brainiac of the group, would be a geography teacher who has little "respect" from his students. This would give ample opportunity to resume his feud with Greg Davies's Mr Gilbert, who likely still "belittles" him.

Simon, the most uptight member, could be in a "mid-management" level job who is going through a "life crisis" of sorts. The fan suggests that, upon looking at the success of his friends, he has another "typical Simon crash-out".

Affable Neil may not be the brains of the group, but this fan suggests he's still happily working at the supermarket despite earning millions from a cryptocurrency investment. Naturally, nobody understands why.

Jay, however, may have changed the most in this theory. The fan suggests he's happily married with a couple of children, but now reverts to "bullshitting" about their achievements rather than his own.

Though only a theory, the prospective plot outline was widely praised by fans of the series, with one replying: "This is so perfect, I almost don't want it to be anything else lmao especially the Neil one."

"The idea of Jay being the only happily married one could actually be the only original and surprising thing they could do with this. Like, he's just head over heels obsessed with his wife and kids and, as you say, bullshits about them," added another.

Speaking about the upcoming project, Beesley and Morris said: "It's been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we're going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans."

The Inbetweeners 3 has no release date.
