DC Officially Announces Mister Miracle's New Codename Ahead Of Animated Series

Shaun Corley has been with ScreenRant for over 5 years, and is currently the Coordinator for PR and Outreach for the Comics Team.
Ahead of his animated series debut, DC Comics has given Mister Miracle a new codename. A long-time fan-favorite character, Mister Miracle, will soon make the leap to animation, in a new adult animated series from DC Studios. The animated series will be based on the best-selling and critically acclaimed title from writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerards.
Created by Jack Kirby after he signed with DC Comics, Mister Miracle is one of the best characters the artist ever came up with. Scott Free, a citizen of New Genesis who was nonetheless raised on Apokolips, managed to escape the place, and sought refuge on Earth. There, the first Mister Miracle, Thaddeus Brown, took Scott under his wing. Brown was a circus performer, and he taught Scott the tricks of the trade, even giving him his first costume.
There is also a third Mister Miracle: Shilo Norman, who is a protege of Scott Free.
In 2017, DC began publishing a new Mister Miracle title, under the guidance of the aforementioned Tom King and Mitch Gerards. The 12-issue series was a smash hit with critics, and regularly tops “best of the 2010s” polls. After the conclusion of King and Gerards’ magnum opus, the character seemingly vanished from the DC Universe, entering into limbo. Mister Miracle is too good a character to keep down for long, and he is back, and with a new nickname.
Mister Miracle Is Back, And He Has An Awesome New Code Name
AIPT has announced that Mister Miracle takes a new codename in DC All-In Saga: The New Gods #1, which will be written by Ram V and Alex Paknadel and drawn by Joan Urgell. Previously, Ram V and artist Evan Cagle put the citizens of New Genesis through their paces in a 12-issue miniseries that concluded recently, and this new special spins out of it. DC’s solicitation for the issue reads as follows:
Mister Miracle thought he could escape anything. But in the wake of unimaginable upheaval, Scott Free has taken on a role he can’t escape: Highfather. With New Genesis occupied by sinister alien forces, the New Gods have taken refuge on Earth, leaving Scott responsible for leading a displaced people searching for safety on a planet that is not their own.
Their arrival on our world will not go unnoticed.
Fourth World technology is being illegally traded on Earth, and tensions are rising as Mister Miracle and the New Gods attempt to peacefully coexist with their new neighbors. With their homeworld beyond their reach and their extraordinary technology falling into dangerous hands, the remaining New Gods must find their place in the DC Universe before the fragile sanctuary they have found becomes another battlefield.
The book will come with variant covers by Dustin Nguyen, Javi Fernandez and others.
There is a lot to unpack in the solicitation, but perhaps the most shocking revelation is that Mister Miracle is the new Highfather. Previously, Izaya held the title, making him the leader of New Genesis and the New Gods. Yet events in V and Cagle’s New Gods mini have removed Izaya from the role. It has also taken New Genesis’ citizens to Earth, where they now struggle to fit in with a population that does not trust them. Highfather/Mister Miracle is soon to be in the fight of his life, both physically and spiritually.
Mister Miracle Could Be Heading For Disaster
Could Mister Miracle's New Role Be The Ultimate Trap?
One of Scott Free/Mister Miracle’s many nicknames is the “Super Escape Artist From the Fourth World,” a reference to his stage show as well as his ability to seemingly slip out of any trap. Scott’s whole life has been one of escape: he fled Darkseid and Apokolips the first chance he had. Mister Miracle is a hero who is constantly on the move, but now his promotion to Highfather might disrupt that.
Furthermore, Mister Miracle’s ascension to the upper ranks of The New Gods might create a trap that not even he can escape from.
Furthermore, Mister Miracle’s ascension to the upper ranks of The New Gods might create a trap that not even he can escape from. Serving as Highfather takes patience and wisdom, and while Mister Miracle has these qualities about him, the circumstances he faces them under are far different than anything Izaya. Izaya ruled over New Genesis in a time of stability, but Mister Miracle has inherited a mess. This in turn could lead Scott to make decisions he might regret later.
It is also fitting that DC give Mister Miracle a new and awesome codename right as the hype machine around his impending animated series begins. The show’s source material is rightfully regarded as an all-time classic, and with the creators’ involvement, it is certain to recapture the spirit of King and Gerards’ work. The show is sure to be a hit with fans and critics, and giving him a new and more assertive codename is a vote of confidence on DC’s part.
