Exclusive: Hollyoaks confirms another "dark secret" in Jonah Keane's past

Hollyoaks star Matthew Wolfenden has confirmed that there's worse to come for his character Jonah Keane, as people will soon find out that he's drugging his son Caleb to keep him unwell.

It was recently revealed that Jonah has Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another (FDIA), historically known as Münchausen syndrome by proxy, and has been keeping his son Caleb Keane ill by slipping him pills.

Jonah hopes to stop Caleb from leaving to travel the world with his girlfriend Frankie Osborne – in scenes set to air next week, Jonah will put the entire Keane household on lockdown to prevent Caleb from seeing her.

Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, Matthew hinted that there's further dark secrets in Jonah's past, this time regarding the death of his previous wife.

"People are going to start finding out what Jonah is doing," Matthew teases. "This is probably going to uncover Jonah’s very dark secret that he’s got, which is to do with his wife who passed away.

"We’ll find out some interesting stuff about Jonah and Beth’s relationship, how they actually got together and whether Beth actually knew some of Jonah’s dark secrets…"

Also next week, Jonah's hidden stash of medication will be unveiled during a scuffle between his wife Beth Keane and Frankie – and Matthew reckons that if Jonah was found out, he could lose absolutely everything.

"In the long run, he could lose his wife, his son could never speak to him again, and that is the most important thing to Jonah," Matthew muses. "This is mental illness [Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another], but what he’s actually doing in the long run is going to push away all the people that he’s trying to keep close.

"If Beth finds out, she’ll definitely want him out of the house."

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
