Perez signs multi-year extension with Cadillac

Translate

Sergio Perez will remain with Cadillac until 2029 after signing a multi-year contract extension.

The 36-year-old, who is set to celebrate his 300th Grand Prix start in his home race in Mexico City this weekend, joined the American Formula One team last August before their debut season on the grid, racing alongside fellow veteran Valtteri Bottas.

Perez made his Formula One debut in 2011 and has won six grands prix – five for Red Bull between 2021-24 and one for Racing Point (now Aston Martin) in 2020.

He finished third in the 2022 drivers' championship and second behind team-mate Max Verstappen in 2023.

Despite having two years left on his contract, he was dropped by Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season after the team felt he had run out of time to prove he could support Verstappen.

Perez sits bottom of the 2026 standings, with three 14th-place finishes – in Barcelona, Silverstone, and Azerbaijan – his best performances. Neither he nor Bottas has earned a point for Cadillac.

"Joining Cadillac from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter," said Perez.

"Building a Formula One team from the ground up takes time, relentless work and patience, but the progress we are making together is incredibly rewarding.

"There is still a lot of work ahead of us and I am fully committed to the next three years."
