EXCLUSIVE: Emmy-nominated This is Us star Chris Sullivan has joined Jeremy Holm (House of Cards, Mr. Robot) on thriller Tessellation as production gets underway in Illinois.

The feature directorial debut of screenwriter Michael Moreci follows disgraced puzzle champion and CIA codebreaker Anton (Holm) who is drawn into a conspiracy that forces him to confront the one code he could never crack: the reason his wife had to die.

The cast also features Stephen Louis Grush (The Righteous Gemstones) and Winter Williams (The Human Centipede).

“Tessellation is very much a movie for our times,” said Moreci. “Nothing is real, fringe paranoia has become mainstream, and we’re losing our ability to even verify the truth.

“We’re following in the footsteps of The Conversation, Blow Out, and The Parallax View, movies that also dealt with paranoia and distrust, and I’m proud to carry forward the tradition of these important films.”

Moreci has won acclaim for his work spanning comics, film and television. His breakout comedic dark fantasy comic series Barbaric has sold more than one million copies and is currently in development as a series at Netflix. Other notable screenwriting credits include the Shudder horror film Revealer and Revival for Syfy/Peacock.

Tessellation is produced by Robert Patrick Stern, Kevin Lau and Moreci, as well as Stephen Mastrocola, in association with Static Films. Damian Wassel, Jen Shelby, Rhett Bruno and Steven Beaulieu of Aethon Books serve as executive producers. Stephanie Slife is the line producer.

“Static Films is built on the philosophy of supporting artists early in their careers, because Hollywood doesn’t always know what it wants until they see it. The low-budget debuts of Christopher Nolan (Following), Darren Aronofsky (Pi), and more recently, Jane Schoenbrun (We’re All Going to the World’s Fair) serve as both inspiration and reminders of where these filmmakers can go,” said Mastrocola.

“When I first read Tessellation, I was immediately compelled by Michael’s vision, the script’s unique structure, and how relevant it is in these strange times. We’re looking forward to seeing if audiences can solve Anton’s puzzle when it comes to theaters next year.”

Holm is represented by Formation Talent Agency and Prevail Artist Entertainment. Grush is represented by Stewart Talent, LTA and Robert Stein Management. Sullivan is represented by Gersh and Suskin/Karshan Management.

Cameras are set to roll this week at Flyover Film Studios in Central Illinois.
