This month celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, with the original series airing on television and taking the world by storm since 1966. Since then, the sci-fi franchise has gone on to welcome multiple television shows, movies, books, and video games, and there is no denying how much of an impact it has had on the sci-fi genre as a whole.

It may have been six decades since Star Trek first landed on our televisions, but the franchise is far from over, with multiple projects still on the horizon, but on top of that, fans can look forward to one big October release.

Star Trek Fluxx Returns

Captain Pike hugs a sleepy Talosian in Star Trek.

Star Trek Fluxx is an officially licensed, fast-paced card game created courtesy of a collaboration between Looney Labs and Gale Force Nine. Featuring four current standalone boxes, with each focusing on a different era of the Star Trek timeline, the fifth is expected to launch this month, titled Star Trek: Lower Decks Fluxx.

Until now, the Original set, TNG, DS9 and Voyager have been available for fans and now, to celebrate Star Trek's 60th anniversary, Looney Labs has announced that the current Fluxx decks will be heading back to stores from 20 October onwards. As such, you will be able to grab the brand-new Star Trek: Lower Decks Fluxx and stock up on older decks at the same time.

However, as for Lower Decks Fluxx, its official description reads as follows:

The funniest frontier! These are the voyages of the Starship Cerritos, its five-season mission: to inspire the fifth Star Trek themed version of Fluxx! Join Boimler, Mariner, Rutherford, and Tendi, plus of course the bridge crew and even Cetacean Ops and Peanut Hamper, as they take on Creepers like the Pakleds, Badgey, and the most fearsome Moopsy. Is your helmet big enough to win you the game?

A Must-Play For Star Trek Fans

Star Trek Fluxx Game

For 1-6 players, Star Trek: Lower Decks Fluxx offers anything from 10-30 minutes of gameplay and retails at a respectable $25.00. Each game begins with one simple rule: draw one card, play one card. "You start with a hand of three cards, add the card you drew to your hand, and then choose one card to play, following the directions written on your chosen card. As cards are drawn and played from the deck, the rules of the game change from how many cards are drawn, played, or even how many cards you can hold at the end of your turn."

To find out more about Star Trek Fluxx, and to secure Star Trek: Lower Decks Fluxx for yourself, you can head to the Looney Labs website and check out all it has to offer, including the rules of the game if you are still not sure.

So, if you want to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise in style, look no further than this stunning new October release.
