Cesc Fabregas admitted that Inter were the better side after Como fell to a 2-0 defeat in San Siro in Serie A on Sunday evening, explaining that the Nerazzurri have more experience in big matches and that they are ‘the strongest in Europe’ in transition.

Strikes from Pio Esposito and Marcus Thuram within the first 20 minutes gave Inter a two-goal lead against Fabregas’s side, which they were able to hold onto right the way through until the full-time whistle.

Fabregas speaks after Inter 2-0 Como: ‘We have to congratulate them’

Fabregas did not need reminding that Inter were the better of the two sides on the pitch on Sunday. He was, in fact, complimentary of the way that Inter played and the experience they have available in their squad.

“We didn’t start the game well, we made a few mistakes and we weren’t confident,” Fabregas told DAZN while assessing his own side’s performance.

“We have to congratulate Inter, who played much better than us. We’re on a different journey than what we’re used to, playing every three games. We have to thank the boys for what they have given us so far.

“Inter deserved the victory, we have to shake their hands and move on. The demands are always rising and we have to continue like that. I’m not looking for any excuses, this is what football is like and a coach has to adapt. My responsibility is to look for solutions.

“We only had two central players, so I tried to help by bringing Smolcic in. The way we lost hurts, with those balls that we gave away too cheaply. That makes you lose confidence because Inter are very strong in transition, the strongest in Europe.”

Fabregas went on to explain that Inter “are one of the best teams around on counter attacks and from set-pieces. They made 13 fouls and did those well because they didn’t get any booking. In these games, just breaking up the rhythm can impact the game. These sorts of details show the experience they have and we’re lacking that.”
