Bukit Aman denies police MPV escorted cable theft vehicle in Ampang

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — Police have denied claims circulating online that a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) escorted a vehicle believed to be carrying stolen cables in Kampung Tasik Tambahan, Ampang, last Saturday.

Sinar Harian reported that Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation and Community Safety Department director Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said police had arrested a cable theft suspect in connection with the incident.

He said claims that the police vehicle was involved in a conspiracy with the cable thieves were untrue.

“The claim that the police vehicle was in collusion with them is untrue.

“The MPV acted based on information from the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters operations room, and the team vehicle also activated its beacon lights in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) while carrying out its duties,” he said when contacted by Sinar Harian yesterday.

Noor Hisam said the actions of the MPV personnel were in response to a public complaint.

He said one suspect had so far been arrested for further action.

Earlier, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from a house near the scene went viral on several social media platforms, including Facebook and Threads.

The footage prompted various reactions from social media users, including claims that the police vehicle had escorted a vehicle believed to be carrying stolen cables.

Noor Hisam’s clarification came after the footage sparked questions over the police vehicle’s presence at the scene and its actions during the incident.
