President Cyril Ramaphosa has granted a final extension of the deadline for the Madlanga Commission’s final report to allow the inquiry to process additional evidence, the Presidency announced on Saturday.

The new deadline is 25 January 2027.

“President Ramaphosa once again expresses his deepest appreciation for the work conducted by the commission as well as for the manner in which law enforcement agencies are following up testimony emerging from commission hearings,” his spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, said in a statement.

In July, Ramaphosa extended the final report deadline to 16 November, instead of 31 August, as initially anticipated, with an evidence deadline of 2 October.

This was to allow the commission to “close off topics it has opened up in the course of hearings to date” and to allow it to hear evidence on all of the matters listed in its terms of reference.

Without an extension, the commission would have had to leave large parts of its work unfinished, Ramaphosa said at the time.
