'Not necessarily beautiful for the game': Gary Neville reacts to Man City goal in Liverpool rout

Translate

Doku, a second half substitute at Anfield, doubled Man City’s lead shortly after Erling Haaland opener with an early goal of the season contender.

The Belgian, who played a key role in Haaland’s goal, chopped inside Victor Munoz and picked out the top corner with a superb finish to open his account for the campaign.

However, as Doku and the rest of the Man City players celebrated with the travelling support inside Anfield, Neville delivered his immediate reaction.

“A beauty from Jeremy Doku. What a goal,” Neville said on Sky Sports commentary. “Not necessarily beautiful for the game, but there's a strange feeling in the stadium.

“City fans are ecstatic.

“Similar to the position on the first goal, this time he doesn't need a deflection to go to Erling Haaland he does it in one.”

Rayan Cherki added a third for Man City with a sublime finish in the 79th minute, leaving Enzo Maresca’s side on the brink of extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table to three points.

This is City’s first outing since an independent commission found them guilty of all charges they faced relating to breaches of the league's financial regulations between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.

The club have appealed that decision and maintain that the ruling contains "clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe".

Although, the strange feeling surrounding the result is that it is unclear when a final resolution will come and whether it will cast a shadow over this season's title race.
