Asian Games 2026: Thai sensation Boonson equals Area Record in 200m, completes sprint double

Puripol Boonson equalled seven-year-old Area Record in men’s 200m as he clocked 19.88s to achieve the sprint double at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026 in Japan on Sunday.
Boonson, the 20-year-old sprinter from Thailand, matched the mark set by Xie Zhenye in 2019 as he stormed to his second gold of the continental showpiece. He also set a new Games Record, bettering his own timing of 20.10s from the heats.
Earlier, Boonson had also clinched the men’s 100m crown by clocking 9.90s, the second-fastest timing ever recorded by an Asian man.
China’s Youwen Huang and Japan’s Soshi Mizukubo completed the podium. While Huang took silver in 20.45s, Mizukubo bagged the bronze in 20.56s.
