Three feared dead as car crashes, burns at Kenol stage on Ngong Road

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 29 – Three people are feared dead and others injured after a saloon car crashed into pedestrians and burst into flames at Kenol Stage along Ngong Road in Nairobi on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred at about 7.25am near the Raila Odinga International Stadium, where the vehicle reportedly veered off the road and struck a woman waiting for a matatu before the wreckage went up in flames.

Eyewitnesses said the dark blue car was travelling from the Ngong direction when it lost control, hit the pavement and ploughed into pedestrians.

The woman was reportedly killed on the spot, while two other people were said to have been injured and rushed to hospital.

The crash sparked anger among boda boda riders at the scene, with initial accounts indicating that they set the vehicle ablaze after the collision.

The circumstances surrounding the fire, including whether anyone was trapped inside the vehicle, were not immediately clear.

The incident occurred along a busy stretch of Ngong Road frequented by motorists, pedestrians and public service vehicles, raising fresh concerns about the safety of road users in the area.

Authorities had yet to issue a comprehensive statement detailing the confirmed number of fatalities, the identities of those affected and the cause of the crash.

Investigators are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the vehicle losing control and hitting pedestrians.

The incident comes amid growing concern over road deaths in Kenya. Figures attributed to the National Transport and Safety Authority indicate that 3,995 people died in road crashes between January 1 and October 4, 2026, compared with 3,657 over a similar period in 2025.
