The Egyptian Navy celebrated its 59th anniversary, commemorating October 21, 1967, the day Egyptian naval forces changed the concepts of naval warfare worldwide by successfully sinking the Israeli destroyer Eilat off the coast of the city of Port Said.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, held to mark the occasion, Commander of the Egyptian Navy Lieutenant General Mahmoud Adel Fawzy affirmed that this historic anniversary serves as an inspiration and a driving force for building the future.

He noted that the Navy continues to implement its development and modernization plans in accordance with the strategic vision of the political leadership and the General Command of the Armed Forces. These efforts aim to strengthen combat capabilities, localize armament and naval shipbuilding and enhance the training and qualification of combat personnel, enabling the Navy to carry out all missions assigned to it across the country’s various strategic directions.
