At least 9 killed, 6 injured in massive fire at a hotel in Kolkata
KOLKATA: At least nine people were killed and six others injured after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in Kolkata's Mirza Ghalib Street early on Wednesday, officials said.The fire broke out at around 2am.Fire department personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.According to news agency ANI, the deceased were Bangladeshi citizens who had travelled to Kolkata for medical treatment.Six people were injured in the incident and were taken for treatment. Officials said further details about the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the deaths were being investigated.
7 killed in separate incident
In a separate incident in Birbhum district, at least seven people were killed after fire broke out at a private hotel in Tarapith on Tuesday.The fire broke out at around 5am on the ground floor of the four-storey Hotel Bideshinii, located near a pond and a short distance from Tarapith police station.Most of the guests were asleep when the blaze began.Firefighters reached the hotel and brought the fire under control. The injured were rescued and taken to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
