Prisons dept officers visit Najib’s Taman Duta house

Two prisons department vehicles arrived at Najib Razak’s residence at Taman Duta in Kuala Lumpur this morning, a day after the former prime minister was granted a conditional pardon to serve his remaining jail term under house arrest.

The vehicles ferrying several prisons department officers were seen entering the compound at about 9.40am, Berita Harian reported.

The officers were reportedly there to evaluate whether the residence was suitable for Najib to be placed under house arrest.

Several officers were seen surveying the surroundings for about 15 minutes before entering the front door.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister’s Department announced that following a Federal Territories Pardons Board (FTPB) meeting, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong decided to allow Najib to serve the remainder of a six-year jail sentence in his SRC International case at his home provided he pays his RM50 million fine

Under the conditional pardon, Najib will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of the fine.

Najib, 73, has been serving a six-year sentence at Kajang prison after the FTPB halved his original 12-year sentence in February 2024. The original RM210 million fine was also reduced to RM50 million.
