Motorists to enjoy 50pct toll discount for two days in conjunction with Deepavali

Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists will enjoy a 50 per cent toll discount for two days in conjunction with Deepavali, with the government allocating RM20.11 million in compensation to participating highway concessionaires.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the discount would take effect from midnight this Friday until 11.59pm on Saturday.

The initiative covers Class 1 private vehicles at all toll plazas, as well as Class 2 vehicles at the Penang Bridge.

However, the discount will not apply at border toll plazas, namely the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) toll plaza on the North-South Expressway and Tanjung Kupang toll plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link.

In a statement today, Nanta said the initiative reflected the government's continued commitment to safeguarding the people's welfare and well-being.

He said the discount was expected to ease travel costs, particularly for Hindus returning to their hometowns or visiting family members to celebrate Deepavali.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys early to avoid traffic congestion.

They should also ensure their Touch 'n Go cards or eWallets have sufficient balance, observe speed limits, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and take adequate rest to avoid driver fatigue.

Motorists are also encouraged to check the latest traffic updates and highway incidents through the Malaysian Highway Authority's official channels to better plan their journeys.
